Thursday Prompt Shenanigans

(SO MANY SHENANIGANS.)

Seeing as I am currently nursing bruises/swelling from falling out of a train today (note to everyone: "MIND THE GAP" IS ACTUALLY LEGIT ADVICE) and can't bend my leg past about 90 degrees--and there is a creepy looking bug on my bookcase edging ever closer to me which just disappeared ([personal profile] four_tens will be able to sympathise here)--this will just be a quick one!

Here are five prompts to get you started, and feel free to add your own "fics/arts/vids/mixes/etc. this episode made me want really badly" prompts too.

As we had some suggestions regarding the format for prompting last week, we're thinking of changing the weekly post structure (and as soon as narceus and I can find a time when we both don't have Things and also Stuff, we will most certainly sort that out). Until then, please feel more than welcome to fill any of the prompts from last Thursday's post, or any Thursday prompts that catch your eye.

Question: what do people think about setting up a fill list, particularly for any longer fills we get (as well as the shorter ones and 1SM's of course)? (At some point we could also make an aggregate list of all the prompts from old posts that got forgotten, if you guys want one.)

But now, this week's six prompts:

Word association: mosquito, wine, lipstick.

AU: ND are a late 19th century travelling circus troupe (or, you know, any travelling circus troupe).

Unconventional pairing: Emma Pillsbury and Roz Washington.

Picture prompt: http://www.flickr.com/photos/norbert1948/7120235895/

Colour theory: Teen Jesus Joe Hart, green and purple.

Song lyric: All that happens now / Is not some glorious accident / All that matters now / As you ignore and I pretend. This plane's flying upside down / The steering wheel is stuck / But I'm turning us around / We will see that sky above.

Fill: mosquito, wine, lipstick - Rachel - G

A/N Takes place in the future but I don't actually know any spoilers about Rachel's college situation, so this is not spoilery.

It's the end of summer, and school is starting up in two days. The start of college. The start of everything. Rachel is sitting in her tiny apartment (hers and Kurt's) trying to celebrate with a bottle of wine. The weather is warm and humid, and it's lovely really. It would be perfect if there wasn't a mosquito buzzing around, occasionally whining near her head. She keeps scratching. She's pretty sure she's been stealth-bitten three times.

Kurt is a wonderful roommate so far. He's not Finn, but at least he's tidy, and he's enthusiastic about the same things she is. They sing Wicked and West Side Story together while they do the dishes (no dishwasher) and they've been marathoning Grey's Anatomy on DVD. She doesn't get goodnight kisses and she misses Finn's smile, but at least she doesn't have to put up with clothes on the floor or crumbs in the bed.

She finds herself getting annoyed by her own lipstick stain on her glass. It's waxy and chemically every time she takes a sip, and it's kind of ruining the whole luxurious divalicious vibe she had going. And it turns out there really is a difference between average wine and cheap wine.

Anyway, she's starting college in two days, and she's celebrating. Not the school she wanted, but a good one. She'll take a different route to school than Kurt each morning, and she misses her dads, but everything is going to be fine. Better than fine. She'll spend tonight celebrating and tomorrow relaxing, and then everything is going to be fine.

Prompts:
How are things going with Sam still living at Finn and Kurt's?
Psst, Mike and Tina are totally the kinkiest couple in school.
Blaine finally meets Chandler and it turns out he's adorable.
jakia: (his eyelashes are so pretty)

Sam + Finn + Kurt (with bonus Mercedes + Rachel + Blaine)

Rachel Berry suspects that, in different circumstances, she would have found this arousing. Three handsome, beautiful men in their underwear, hitting each other with pillows, sounds sexy, but the reality is actually far more violent.

"Did Kurt actually just punch Finn in the face?" Rachel asks, a little concerned.

Blaine nods. "Yeah, but he did it with a pillow. It's totally fine. And within the rules."

On his other side, Mercedes's whispers "Did Sam just bite Finn's ankle?"

"I think so. But to be fair, he was aiming for Kurt because he punched him in the dick, so."

Rachel gasped as the trio tumbled down on top of each other, with nothing but sweat, boys, and pillows between them. Sam was still grabbing at Finn's ankles, and Kurt had claws out. "I don't know if I'm aroused or horrified."

Blaine shrugged before passing her the large bowl of popcorn. "No rule that says you can't be both. Popcorn?"

Artie Abrahms’ Amazing Arena of Acts

To say that expectations from this performance were low would be to vastly understate the situation at hand. After the mysterious departure of their former ringmaster (who by various accounts abandoned the troupe to run off to the Big Apple with his former lover, left to pursue family life with the troupe’s ex-wardrobe mistress or, most controversially of all, was asked to leave by Mr Artie Abrahms after a successful coup d’état) most critics assumed that this young troupe would dissipate under pressure, despite the undoubted talent of some of its members. That it has not done so speaks well of not just the skill level and determination of the troupe as a whole but also of the cool head possessed by Artie Abrahms himself, the self-styled “Master of the Ring” whose assurance and vision holds together a somewhat eclectic collection of performers that seem to fit together less as pieces of a puzzle than as notes of lots of different tunes.

To get the negatives out of the way at the outset, it must be said that this critic questions the wisdom of bringing Miss Mercedes Jones out from the wardrobe department, where she had been employed under Mr William Schuester’s reign, and casting her as the white face clown. While it may be that Mr Abrahms’ youth renders him incapable of understanding the more complex social realities of our time, casting Miss Jones in this role appears to court controversy that this troupe can ill-afford. Miss Jones had certainly created a striking costume for herself and both Mr Finn Hudson (the auguste clown) and Mr Samuel Evans (the hobo clown) play their parts well but one cannot help but feel that it would have been more appropriate to ask either Mr Hudson or Mr Evans to don the white face and lead the act. Particular praise does however go to Mr Evans, who showed great promise in his brief chapeaugraphy act, where his impressions of the different characters underneath the hats were, if not always clear, then certainly memorable. Mr Hudson has great presence at times but one feels he has yet to fully embrace the role of a clown. As he has previously featured in this troupe as both the lead juggler and a trick rider, it is hard to say if he will improve as he continues to inhabit his role as the auguste clown or if he will change his plans once again.

Apparently reaching up to the stars and beyond, both Mr Kurt Hummel and Miss Rachel Berry showed impressive flying skills on the trapeze and if Miss Berry’s aerial silk act was the highlight of the night for this audience member, Mr Hummel certainly pulled focus with his impressive skills in the spinning and juggling section of the programme. Miss Santana Lopez was similarly memorable as lead juggler and fire dancer, whose performance peaked in the act she shared with acrobat Miss Brittany Pierce. In one of the more experimental pieces of the night, one has to commend both ladies for bravery and agility as Miss Pierce tumbled excellently and apparently effortlessly around her cast mate’s fire juggling. Miss Pierce is a relatively recent addition to the troupe, having transferred from Sue Syvester’s Spectacular Circus Corner where it is rumoured she was being trained as the new human cannonball, but her acrobatic skills form an excellent complement to the equally talented Mr Mike Chang, with whom she frequently shares the ring. Making up the trio of acrobats is contortionist Mr Blaine Anderson, another new addition to the troupe, who looks to have no spine whatsoever to judge by some of the shapes he contorts his body into. Rumour has it that this young man, whose stage presence is undeniable, started circus life as lead juggler in a roving troupe but for the moment he appears to have found his niche contorting himself into increasingly unusual shapes for the pleasure of his audience. As with Mr Hudson, I will be interested to see if Mr Anderson remains as an acrobat or if he will move back into juggling, as his knife juggling act with Miss Lopez show that he has lost none of his earlier skills.

The surprise of the night came from Miss Tina Cohen-Chang who, under the influence of Mr Abrahms, has moved from the flea circus to the main arena and is now lead trick rider for the troupe. While nerves were in evidence at the outset and tears looked very near when a trick looked close to going wrong, this reviewer believes that Miss Cohen-Chang is one to watch; when this young lady gains more self-assurance, she could be a force to be reckoned with. In another unusual staging arrangement, Mr Chang’s acrobatics shared part of the act and it will be interesting to see how this act progresses as the two performers certainly work well together.

At the other end of the scale is Miss Quinn Fabray, whose confidence appears to be in no way shaken by her short time away from the arena. Mr Abrahms’ took a chance in allowing Miss Fabray to stay with the troupe this year after it was strongly rumoured that her stint with the spinning plates last year began due to a reputation-threatening fall off the tightrope with a certain Mr Noah Puckerman (the circus’ strongman, who was also seen sharing the stage with Miss Lauren Zizes and a pack of dogs last night) but whatever the truth of the matter, last night once again Miss Fabray proved that she still walks the tightrope with apparent ease. Her plate spinning act was similarly impressive and one feels that if Miss Fabray can continue to quash the rumours as thoroughly as she has been doing, it will not be long before she is back at the top of the heap.

Miss Lauren Zizes, yet another new addition this year, made an excellent debut as the troupe’s lion tamer and overall mistress of animals. While she is not the most engaging performer and one wonders what the dynamics are like backstage (Mr Noah Puckerman felt unfortunately rather surplus to requirements in their number with the pack of dogs), she makes keeping a lion under control look like child’s play. Mr Puckerman made more of an impression in his traditional strongman act, which he performs with enough charm to keep the audience engaged through an act that makes up in execution what it lacks in originality.

Thank you! I had way too much fun with that. :D Also sorry, I posted just before going to bed last night and only remembered I was supposed to post three more prompts this morning. Ok, umm...

1) The Warblers decide if they lost Blaine due to love, all they need to get him back is for him to fall for someone at Dalton.
2)The language of flowers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_of_flowers

Fill - Warblers & Sebastian - Seducing Blaine

Fill - The Warblers decide if they lost Blaine due to love, all they need to get him back is for him to fall for someone at Dalton.

"Sebastian! You almost had him, you were so close! What went wrong?"

"His boyfriend's an asshole ok? You know I can't keep a good insult bottled up."

"Incredible. All you had to do was be your charming, flirtatious self just long enough for Blaine to decide to transfer back. It didn't take Kurt very long, and he didn't even make a move for, literally, months. How could you screw it up so fast?"

"It was going fine! You were supposed to keep Kurt away from us. If you had done your job properly..."

"Sure, blame the lookout."

"Listen. Blaine would totally want me if Kurt wasn't around, but he is, so."

"So you're saying you can't compete with Kurt."

"I'm saying there was a pre-existing... situation. I'll deal with Kurt. Slushy to the face or something. It'll be fine."

"It better be. We don't have any soloists as good as Blaine anymore."

"Except for me right?"

"...Sure."

Prompts:
- Artie's reaction to Quinn standing on stage at Prom
- How Blaine hid the true nature of his hair from Kurt even after sexytimes
- Anything with Becky and Puck being bros

LOL That was awesome! Quinn spinning plates, Brittany transferring troupes so she wouldn't get shot out of a cannon, Lauren taming lions, Kurt as an acrobat, Sam as a hobo clown... Perfect! Nice work! :D

Prompt - Chandler/Mike LOL

I thought of a cute prompt! I would be delighted if someone filled it! :D

"Wow, he's dreamy. He should never ever wear shirts. Ohmygod I just realized if I married him, my name would be Chandler Chang!"
