Here's What You Missed On: Heart
Still experimenting with the meta/references/questions/longer discussion post and how it's gonna work. I think the Here's What You Missed On title is awesome though, so, keeping that.
We're going to experiment with having different subthreads for different things we want to talk about or questions we have, this week. I'm going to start a few--one for references, a few for topics of discussion that seemed popular last night, one for location stuff, etc.--and you're all more than welcome to start your own. We'll have a thread to discuss how this post and the thread itself are working, too.
Don't make me do this alone!

REFERENCES
Questions I have:
-What group did Rachel's dads say they were in?
-What did Brittany's playlist say?
-What did the whiteboard for the God Squad say?
Re: REFERENCES
2. -Brittany's CD to Santana has the following songs:
Purple People Eater
Disco Duck
Monster Mash
On Top Of Spaghetti
Pac-Man Forever
Osama Yo'Mama
Different Strokes
My roommate pointed out that several of the songs are about monsters that really aren't that monserous (Purple People Eater is dancing).
3. Okay. It said:
Greetings and Introductions
Community Service: Adopt a highway. Shoe Drive.
Fundraising
Proselytizing
Pray about Artie's Legs
Secretly Baptize People
As this seems to get creepier the further down we go I'm going to assume that new Christian kid might get creepier as we go along. Or not. He seems very mellow.

Re: REFERENCES
Re: REFERENCES
It is a very thinky thoughts movie occasionally:
"Norah: It reminds me of this part of Judaism that I really like. It's called Tikkun olam. It says that, um, the world's been broken into pieces and it's everybody's job to find them and put them back together again.
Nick: Well, maybe we're the pieces. Maybe we're not supposed to find the pieces. Maybe we are the pieces."
It makes me happy that Brit Brit likes stuff like this enough to name playlists after it. Also comes with bonus implication that the playlist will grow larger and larger and last forever (infinite), as in she will add more songs that make her think of Santana onto it and that they'll be together forever and ugh ship feels.
PARITY
Re: PARITY
KAROFSKY
Keep it civil. As a reminder, the only ship on this comm is New Directions/Nude Erections. Karofsky is a figure that brings out a lot of strong reactions--remember that about the people you're responding to, and also consider how that might affect your own thoughts.
Re: KAROFSKY
I have really complicated feelings regarding Karofsky, but when Kurt slipped his hand out (and really I would have been shocked had he held Dave's hand) all I could think was "Oh ow"
BREADSTIX
Things to consider:
-Is it really renamed the Sugar Shack permanently?
-Can Sugar's dad in fact buy Ireland?
-Is BreadstiX safer than WMHS for the queer kids?
-With one notable exception, conversations are never overheard in the halls at WMHS. But one was at BreadstiX. Discuss.
-BreadstiX is the place where Blaine comes "back from the dead." Have fun with that.
Re: BREADSTIX
Refresh my memory--what conversation was that again?
-BreadstiX is the place where Blaine comes "back from the dead." Have fun with that.
BreadstiX is Limbo. It's certainly not a heavenly sort of afterlife (Dalton) but it's not Hell (McKinley) either. It's a temporary escape.
It's also where they go to pretend to be adults. They go on dates there, where they spend money they've earned somehow (can we talk about how it's a place where money is referenced a lot? I mean, obviously it's a restaurant, it costs money to eat there, but they talk about finances a lot there, too. Quinn doesn't use the gift certificate because a gentleman always pays on the first date. Brittany orders the shrimp because she thinks Santana is paying. Puck almost ruins everything because he tries to escape without paying. It costs something to go there.)
It's where you go when you want to admit that you want to hold Brittany's hand, even if it has to be under the napkin. It's also the place where you confess to Kurt you want to be with him, even if you aren't ready to come out of the closet.
(Can we talk about that, too? BreadstiX and the closet: what is the connection? Also, Karofsky was outed there, so that's also interesting. And no one is fooled by your whole "holding hands under a napkin" thing, Santana. On the other hand, Kurt and Blaine go on a date there and hold hands openly, so...idk. There are thinky thoughts.)
Re: BREADSTIX
I do wonder...is BreadstiX safe because of it's function as limbo, or because Sugar's Dad's buddies are patrolling it for a night?
We really should talk about BreadstiX and the closet. I think it's the limbo thing.
Do we want threads for specific characters?
Re: PARITY
Definitely would love threads for Kurt, Puck, and Mercedes tho (It's like you're a mind reader). If not to have thinky thoughts, then to gush at MERCEDES IN THAT DRESS UGH STOP BEING GORGEOUS.
Then again most of my Kurt thoughts are in regards to Karofsky, and Mercedes in SamcedesState of the post
In no particular order:
-something about shipping and ship wars being the root of all evil
-the following words have been rendered essentially meaningless: continuity, parity, male saviour
-there is more to a storyline than moral judgement. most storylines don't even include that component
-be nice to the writers who gave you the show
-disagreement is awesome. be respectful, don't call your conversational partner stupid, don't confuse facts with your opinions on them, conserve your energy, and remember--it's a cool show, but it's just a TV show
-don't bash characters or actors. that doesn't mean you have to like everyone's voice, or think that everyone is a good guy, but don't be an asshole
-these threads are for thinking about and analyzing the episodes. you don't need to know academic words, have elaborate theories, or like arguing to participate, though some of us will. there's room for everyone. --sometimes the best analysis is contained in a phrase, a lyric or a direct quote from the show, or a gif. keep it simple.
-it's cool to like things
Basically: don't be an asshole.
Thoughts?
