Here's What You Missed On: The Spanish Teacher
So, we all agreed yesterday that what we really wanted was a weekly 'references' post, for all the jokes, allusions, and visual callbacks to things we didn't quite catch. Here it is!
I'm going to try an experiment with our first references post, and divide it into subthreads to keep things a little more organized. We will see if this works! Dive right in!

Re: References in song
Will's song was offensive on many levels, yeah, but also the fundamental one- he has a week of Latin music, then chooses a song by Elvis Presley- quite possibly the most recognizable American musical figure- Seriously, he's instantly recognizable to the international world, think the Beatles for England.
Like... holy crap, Will. Way to be the most worst possible.
Extra bonus irony for his dancing being a weird, awkward combination of Elvis moves and... whatever he was trying to say with the mariachi bullfight stuff. >_>
Re: References in song
"A little less conversation, a little more action please / All this aggravation ain't satisfactionin' me / A little more bite and a little less bark / A little less fight and a little more spark / Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me". That fits so well with, like, everything that is Will.
-all the lines about aggravation and "a little less fight" ---> "You have to be liked Will, you avoid confrontation."
-Hey, David, stop conversing with my students because every time you do that and teach them something it makes me look even more incompetent.
-Will can't even converse in Spanish at all. (That said, his action proves to be pretty goddamn fail as well. But he'd like to think it isn't.)
-It's kind of the perfect mix of well-intentioned and demanding and inappropriate and pretty much everything that Will ever asks of his kids is in those lines. NO STOP FIGHTING, STOP BEING ANGRY, KIDS, JUST SING SONGS. YOU DON'T HAVE OPINIONS. JUST DO WHAT I SAY. Exactly what Artie was raging about in Michael. Nice to see he learned his lesson.
-"Satisfy me". yes, because this whole glee club is about you, Will. >< (Also it's intensely creepy, which is Will all over.)
Also: let's sing a song by an artist who was widely considered the manliest of the manly men back in the 50s because NO ONE IS MORE MACHO OF/FROM WILL SCHUESTER. :P
